The purpose of the Southern
Arizona Paddlers Club (SAPC), home-based in Tucson, is to foster and
support activities related to canoeing, kayaking, and rafting.
Also the purpose is to provide a forum for exchanging information
and sharing resources pertaining to these activities, to promote
education and training in boating skills and safety, to encourage
sound environmental and conservation policies and practices — with
specific attention to protecting river, lake, coastal resources and
access — and, to have fun.
They are also involved in several community-service activities,
such as helping a group of Girl Scouts get their canoeing and
camping merit badges.
Club meetings are held the second Monday of every other month
starting January of the calendar year.
Meetings are normally held at the Arizona Game and Fish
Department, 555 N. Greasewood Rd., Tucson, across the road (west)
from Pima Community College.
Doors open around 6 p.m. for networking, and meetings start at 7
p.m.
There is usually a discussion and/or slide show presentation
(after the club business) given by guest speakers or club members
relating to the sport of paddling, safety, paddling destinations,
trip reports, etc.
Upcoming meeting dates for 2006 are July 10, Sept. 11, and Nov.
13.
Trips are also planned, and at press time, the next scheduled is
June 15-July 4, in Salida, Colo.: the FIBARK Festival on the
Arkansas River. For more information, contact Tommy James at
