Help Needed To Restore Lakes

Editor,

We need your help! Over the past few years, three of the best places to fish in Arizona were devastated by fish kills attributed to golden algae. A world-class smallmouth bass population was wiped out, and largemouth bass numbers were decimated in Apache, Canyon, and Saguaro lakes.

It will take time and effort to bring these lakes back. Although no major kills have happened on those lakes in a while, golden algae is not going away. Let’s start now and put bass back in the lakes and find out why golden algae causes fish kills. Let’s work to ensure that future generations of anglers can enjoy these beautiful lakes as they once were.

Please join Anglers United of Arizona (AU) and United Arizona Anglers Foundation (UAAF) in funding bass stocking and golden algae research. AU is a non-profit corporation founded in 1982 and has been instrumental in improving Arizona’s fishing.

Each year, AU will match $5,00 donated to this cause. UAAF was founded in 2007 and is dedicated to improving Arizona fishing. Of every dollar you donate, 100 percent will buy bass or pay for golden algae research.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) is also our partner, providing expertise and acquiring fish to stock. Our donations will allow them to do more and do it sooner. Every dollar donated can be used by AGFD to match federal or state funds when available.

For example, a $1,000 donation plus a $1,000 match from AU means a $2,000 donation for AGFD to use to get $6,000 of matching money from the federal Sportfish Restoration Fund. The total is $8,000 to buy bass or do golden algae research.

You can see how every donated dollar can be extremely valuable. Please help us by supporting the future of fishing in Arizona. Your grandkids’ opportunity to bass fish may depend on it. Any donation will be accepted and appreciated.

Your support is critical!

Please send you name and address along with your check made payable to Anglers United of Arizona. All donations are tax deductible. A receipt will be sent by return mail.
