Discover Glen Canyon’ Photo Contest Winners Announced

PAGE, Ariz. – Mike Fey, of Sandy, Utah, is the first-place winner of Glen< Canyon National Recreation Areas second annual "Discover Glen Canyon" photo contest.

Fey’s winning photo, titled “Overlooking Navajo Canyon,” of a hiker high above a houseboat beached on Lake Powell will be printed on the park’s 2008 entrance pass.

“We thank Mike and all of the other individuals who submitted photos for this contest,” said Acting Superintendent Stan Austin.  “The dramatic red-rock landscapes of Glen Canyon and Lake Powell are a perfect place for photographers.”

Second and third place winners include:

Second place —   “Spaceship Rocks” by Malcolm Alter of Flagstaff, Ariz.
Third place — “Enjoying the Lake” by Sue Lerud of Page, Ariz.

A panel of National Park Service employees and local community leaders met in January to select the winning photo.  The winners of the contest all receive a free Glen Canyon annual entrance pass.  The pass provides free admission to Glen Canyon National Recreation and normally costs $30.

A gallery of photos from this year’s contest is featured on Glen Canyon’s
Web site at www.nps.gov/glca/photosmultimedia.

Photographers interested in submitting photos for next year’s contest will have the summer and fall to work on capturing that perfect image.  Details about the third annual “Discover Glen Canyon” photo contest will be announced in the fall.
